Google is Barfier

  1. Apple monetizes you by charging you what it needs to upfront to make its profit.
  2. Amazon monetizes you by putting clearly labeled ads on the screen, hoping you will see one that you like, click it, and generate revenue.
  3. Google monetizes you by putting adware and payware on the home screen, hoping you will click something you thought was free and pay for it.

Amazon’s approach may both be “Barf”, as John Moltz puts it, but it feels a lot more ingenuous than Google’s approach.1

  1. Apple’s approach is obviously the best treatment of customers, but the competitors need a way to distinguish themselves on price.  As customers, we have shown that we are willing to give up a lot for a little bit of money, so I get why Amazon and Google have taken that approach, albeit using different methods.
