The Sum and the Whole

After almost 3 weeks of convincing myself that I did not need the iPhone 5 (after picking up the iPhone 4 and 4S on release day with Verizon), I broke down last night and ordered one for pick up today.

To be clear, I do not need one.  The 5 is faster (both hardware and data), taller, thinner, lighter, and upgrades the screen size only slightly (yet meaningfully).  These spec increases are not as radical as the screen changes in the iPhone 4 or the speed increase in the 4S.

After checking it out for a while at a wedding last weekend, though, I realized that, all together, this creates a device that is a huge step forward over the 4S.  I may not need it, but I want it.  Well played, Apple.
